Hello Jenkins family,
I hope this Friday greeting finds you well as we all are getting ready for a great time under the warm Ft. Lauderdale sun in just a few more days. I thought it was only so fitting to cover shopping in this Thanksgiving family update since it’s the last Friday before we meet in Ft.Lauderdale. Please whatever you do shop lightly as you can BEFORE you come. I remember our Thanksgiving retreat in Delaware one year. People shopped so much that TV’s and other boxes was strapped to the top of their vehicles (you know who are) looking like the Beverly Hillbillies. The Black Friday deals were really good to us among the 300 plus stores via the malls and outlets. I don’t think the Ft. Lauderdale shopping possibilities will disappoint you. If shopping is your thing then from what I can see the shopping we are about to encounter in Ft. Lauderdale could easily surpass our Delaware trip. Just the store count below at 2 of the locations alone with Black Friday Deals should put a smile on your face!
I only listed 4 shopping locations (with their website links) that may be of interest to you. There are other shopping malls around…but I just wanted to give you 1 shopping destination in 4 separate locations of Ft. Lauderdale. Get ready because here they are:
1. Las Olas Boulevard http://www.lasolasboulevard.com/
The riverfront of Las Olas Boulevard is a one-mile stretch of shops, bars, clubs, boutiques, galleries, restaurants and hotels and is known as the Rodeo Drive of Fort Lauderdale. Where else can you find such a wide variety of quality stores? Las Olas Boulevard is simply just a shoppers’ paradise. And the ambience of the boulevard makes shopping even more of a pleasure. Have a leisurely brunch at a sidewalk café, browse and shop at fabulous boutiques, galleries, specialty stores and fabulous fashion houses and then spend a romantic evening dining at one of Las Olas’ many wonderful restaurants!
2. Galleria of Fort Lauderdale http://www.galleriamall-fl.com/
truly world-class shopping experience. Popular destination for fabulous restaurants, sophisticated stores and world-class service. Anchored by three major department stores: Neiman Marcus, Macy’s & Dillard’s. Other famous retailers and specialty shops include Apple, Coach, Williams-Sonoma, Cole Haan, J. Crew and Pottery Barn. A premier Fort Lauderdale dining destination, with restaurants like The Capital Grille, P.F. Chang’s, Seasons 52, Blue Martini and Trulucks. And there’s no better way to complete a perfect day than by being pampered at the Red Door Spa by Elizabeth Arden. Mon-Sat 10am-9pm, Sun 12-6pm.
3. SawgrassMills www.sawgrassmills.com
North America’s largest outlet mall with more than 400 retailers including internationally recognized brand-name stores, full service-restaurants, entertainment venues and the most sought-after luxury outlets, offering something for the entire family. Mon-Sat 10am-9:30pm., Sun 11am–8pm
4. Festival flea market http://www.festivalfleamarket.com/
An indoor open-air, old-world market. A shopping paradise a quarter-mile long with over 500 shops, restaurants, fragrance outlets, cosmetic stores, shoe stores, clothing shops, jewelry stores, home furnishing stores and boutiques. A variety of brand name products at bargain prices. Going Bananas Farmer’s Market: fresh produce, delicious deli and scrumptious seafood, along with a wide selection specialty items. Mon-Fri 9:30am-5pm, Sat-Sun 9:30am-6pm.
5. SwapShop http://www.floridaswapshop.com/swap.html
The Florida Swap Shop is a flea market with over 2,000 vendors, with both outdoor and indoor areas. It also boasts the areas drive-in movie theatre, carnival rides, a farmer’s market, and other attractions. The Swap Shop is the second largest South Florida attraction with visitors from not only the United States and Canada but many foreign countries as well! It’s not a surprise that in 1990 alone more than 12 million people visited the now world famous SWAP SHOP.
Two Last Notes:
I have been in touch with a homeowner in Ft. Lauderdale that still has her 3 bdrm / 2 bath house available to rent for $600 for the dates from Nov.23 to Nov.27th (4 nights). Her Gated Property is situated on a 50 acre lake. If anyone wish to grab it they can visit her website at http://www.vacationrentals.com/vacation-rentals/30904.html Her name is Joyce McGinnis and her phone number is (954) 587-9074
Our next update may come this Sunday as there is still yet another type of fun destination that many of you like to go to. The only hint that I can give you is that the irony of it being posted on Sunday should get you thinking.
Be Blessed, Be Safe and Make sure that you get at least one other family member to see this update.
